Defending champion Alice Hewson is on course for her second consecutive title at the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open 2025 at Migros Golfpark Holzhäusern. With impressive rounds of 66 and 67 strokes, the Englishwoman is nine under par and starts the final round on Saturday with a two-stroke lead. Close behind her are strong challengers, including a Swiss trio that is shining in twelfth place and thrilling the home fans.
Hewson shows nerves of steel
Alice Hewson proved her class again in the second round when, after a difficult start with two early bogeys, she fought back and followed up with six birdies. ‘I didn't let myself get distracted and took it one shot at a time,’ explained the 28-year-old, who already has three top ten finishes this season on the Ladies European Tour (LET). The course on Lake Zug seems to suit her particularly well, but Hewson remains focused: ‘I'll just play my game tomorrow and see where we stand.’
Swiss trio impress
There are three reasons for local fans to celebrate: Kim Métraux, Chiara Tamburlini and Axelle Martin are tied for twelfth place and have an excellent chance of finishing in the top spots.
Kim Métraux fought back impressively after four bogeys and saved herself with two late birdies to finish with a round of 73. ‘It wasn't my best day, but I'm still in the running and will give it my all tomorrow,’ said Métraux, who starts the final round at four under par.
Chiara Tamburlini, winner of the 2024 Order of Merit, put in a strong performance after a mixed start. Her round of 68 also put her in twelfth place. ‘I'm satisfied, but I hope to do even better tomorrow,’ said the Swiss player, who is delighted with the support of the fans.
Seventeen-year-old amateur Axelle Martin is the surprise of the tournament. With another round of 69, she established herself among the professional golfers. ‘I'm just happy to be here and enjoying the game,’ said Martin, who is accompanied by her father as her caddie. The greatest success of her young career is within reach.
High tension ahead of the final round
With a strong international chasing pack – including Lauren Walsh (Ireland) and Sarah Kemp (Australia) at seven under par – and the local fan favourites, Saturday's final promises to be a thrilling duel for the title. The Swiss are hoping for a sensation in front of their home crowd, while Hewson is heading for her third LET title.
