An emotional maiden victory was the highlight of the 7th edition of the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open at Migros Golfpark Holzhäusern: England’s Eleanor Givens won her first Ladies European Tour (LET) event after 210 starts on the tour, securing the title with a score of 13 under par.
The 37-year-old prevailed in a thrilling finale, finishing one stroke ahead of Alexandra Försterling (Germany), Anna Foster (Ireland) and Whitney Hillier (Australia). Particularly remarkable: Givens had not finished higher than 14th this season and even had to cope with the loss of her golf clubs at the start of the tournament week.
“I can’t believe it. I’m over the moon and incredibly proud of myself, but also a bit in shock,” said the winner after her first triumph on the Ladies European Tour.
From a Swiss perspective, Vanessa Knecht achieved the best result on her return to home soil after a two-year break. The Zurich native finished the tournament two under par in a tie for 46th place and enjoyed the support of family, friends and fans in front of a home crowd.
As well as top-class golf, there was plenty to experience off the course in Holzhäusern too. A varied supporting programme, the popular “Beat the Pro” format featuring young female golfers from Swiss Golf, and numerous activities in the Event Village provided further highlights.
The future of the tournament is also secure: title sponsor VP Bank has extended its commitment until 2029, thereby reaffirming its long-term support for Switzerland’s most important professional women’s golf tournament.
The VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open was also broadcast in over 80 countries worldwide and reached an international audience thanks to the extensive TV production.
